The Zohra Orchestra’s first recording is due to be released by Toccata Classics on 1st June 2016.
In partnership with Quatro Puntos, a cross-cultural chamber music ensemble, the recording is called ‘The Rosegarden Of Light’ and features music by London-based composer Sadie Harrison. The recordings will be available online, and in selected outlets.
Five female traditional instrumentalists from ANIM have been invited to take part in the prestigious Viljandi Folk Festival (http://www.folk.ee/en/viljandi-paerimusmuusika-festival-2). This is one of the biggest folk festivals in Europe and this year will focus on women’s music and performance. ANIM is delighted to be invited to such an exiting event and our students are practising intensively every day, during and after school. They will present a selection of traditional Afghan music from various parts of the country, and therefore continue ANIM’s work of introducing Afghan music around the world.
The ANIM Chamber Orchestra has been invited to play at a celebration of Swedish National Day at the Swedish Embassy. The orchestra played last year and the Swedish community were so delighted they have asked us to return to play traditional music, plus a few Abba songs!
